Early Elementary Teacher (Grades 1–2) - Full time
Position Overview

AHIS seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative Early Elementary Teacher (Grades 1–2) to support students’ transition from play-based early childhood learning into increasingly structured inquiry and academic development.
The Early Elementary years establish foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, collaboration, and independent learning while maintaining curiosity, creativity, and joy in learning.
Teachers play a central role in creating an environment where students develop confidence as thinkers, communicators, and community members.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver inquiry-based learning experiences integrating literacy, numeracy, and conceptual understanding.

  • Support development of foundational academic skills through meaningful contexts.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Foster independence, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Collaboration with Specialists

  • Work closely with specialist teachers to integrate:

    • Nature & outdoor learning

    • Japanese language

    • Technology & Design

    • Performing Arts

    • PSHD

  • Ensure specialist learning connects meaningfully with classroom inquiry.

Student Development & Wellbeing

  • Support students’ social-emotional development and classroom community.

  • Establish routines that promote responsibility and agency.

  • Monitor and document student progress.

Professional Collaboration

  • Participate actively in curriculum development and collaborative planning.

  • Contribute to building shared pedagogical practices within a founding team.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Qualified elementary/primary teacher.

  • Experience teaching early primary grades preferred.

  • Familiarity with inquiry-based approaches such as IB PYP, Reggio Emilia-inspired practice, Montessori-informed environments, or similar frameworks.

  • Strong classroom community-building skills.

  • Flexible, reflective, and collaborative mindset.

  • Comfortable working in a startup / founding school environment.
