Creative Arts Teacher - Part time
Position Overview
Akiya Hayama International School (AHIS) seeks an enthusiastic and creative Creative Arts Teacher to nurture students’ confidence, expression, collaboration, and imagination through music, drama, movement, storytelling, and creative exploration.
At AHIS, the arts are viewed as essential to whole-child development. Through creative expression, students develop communication, empathy, confidence, risk-taking, and collaborative thinking.
The Creative Arts Teacher will create joyful and inclusive opportunities for students to explore voice, movement, storytelling, music, and performance as forms of expression and community-building.
Given AHIS’s emphasis on nature-based learning, the ideal candidate will also have a love for nature and interest in incorporating outdoor environments into creative exploration and artistic expression.
This role is initially structured as part-time, with the possibility of expanding into a full-time position depending on the candidate’s interests and the evolving needs of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Arts Instruction

Plan and teach developmentally appropriate lessons in music, drama, movement, and creative expression

Encourage creativity, imagination, and student voice

Introduce foundational skills such as rhythm and musical expression, movement and body awareness, storytelling and improvisation, ensemble collaboration

Support students in building confidence expressing themselves individually and collaboratively

Incorporate nature, outdoor environments, and sensory experiences as inspiration for creative work where appropriate

Provide opportunities for students to share creative work with others when appropriate

Direct and coordinate informal performances, showcases, or storytelling events.
Creative Culture & Community

Help foster a school culture where creative expression and artistic exploration are valued

Create inclusive environments where all students feel comfortable participating

Encourage collaboration, experimentation, and creative risk-taking
Collaboration

Collaborate with homeroom and specialist teachers to connect creative arts with inquiry units and school events

Contribute to interdisciplinary projects across the school

Support community events and school celebrations where the arts can play a role
Ideal Candidate Profile

Background in music, drama, theatre, or creative arts education

Experience working with young learners preferred

Energetic, flexible, and relationship-centered

Comfortable facilitating collaborative and process-based learning

Love of nature and interest in incorporating outdoor environments into creative learning
